Mushaboom

In my past weeks of listening to new types of music, I have to say that I'm most intrigued by a singer called Feist.  She has such an amazing voice and she is musically genius.  I can't believe that i'm so obsessed with Feist compared to my past bands that i've listened to.  Feist combines the relaxing aura of coffee shop music with a more modern sound.  She comes from Canada where she started her musical career at the age of 15 doing small local gigs with calgary punk bands.  She played same shows with the ramones, radiohead, peaches, and MIA.  Her musical success at such a young age had led her to the point that she achieved to our present day.  After all of her bands she decided to make her own music.  She called herself Feist, after her last name.  Her music is most popular among the indie crowd but i suggest it to anyone.  For someone looking for some kind of ambient music, i would suggest to play a track from the album Let It Die.  This album has grown on me over the past couple of weeks and a friend and I might even preform a cover soon at an open mic night.

john wayne was a nazi (power cords change pre-implemented fates)

the 70's was the only era of music with any substance, every era before was only a precursor to the 70's and every era after was just a distortion of the fine lyrical spirit of the 70's.
Full of experimental music and lyrical genius the music of the 70's was able to express many different social strata. such a musical expression that exploded from this era only occurs once in every millennia.
the strong and sophisticated tones and power cords were able to bring the masses together. the masses which were brought together fought against many things; the homogenization of the nation, the vice like grip that the "man" had on the world.
a song that will properly exemplify my point is by INXS with the title:  Need You Tonight

the lyrics are included below >

All you got is this moment
The twenty-first century's yesterday
You can care all you want
Everybody does yeah that's okay

This song is obviously explaining a man in need of a passionate night but it's the orgasmic guitar rift that makes the song what it is.  This is what gave people a hope for such great music that influenced future musicians.

roll over beethoven

So today I was having a really intense conversation with one of my friends.  She was explaining how much she enjoyed her class she had today that was about the history of rock music.  She went into thorough detail about how almost every kind of rock group has some classical blues influences.  She said how influential african american musicians were back in the 50's.  And i knew from previous knowledge that Elvis Presley, one of the most popular rock artist of all time, did many covers from african american artists. The sad thing was that Elvis knew what he was doing; He was making covers better and more famous than the originals.  She then carried on to why this happened.  The reason was because "african american" music wasn't accepted at the time and when a caucasian could sing just as well as the african artists then they usually made it big.  It's an interesting topic in general.  The influences for present day bands might surprise you.  If you are really into music research your favorite band's influences. Then once you read up on your favorite bands influences than listen to those bands and learn to expand your music availability.  It's a ritual i do almost daily and i would suggest to anyone who listens to any type of music.

love foolosophy

As we all know, Valentine's day is coming up and we all have the responsibility to induce our loved ones with great love ballads.  Sadly most lovers end up making stereotypical "love" mixes about how the two are both deeply in love.  Now if you are the man in the relationship and you are making a mix for your loved one, a word of advice.  The whole bill withers, marvin gaye, and the temptations mixed with some barry white would have to be the most overused artists on this holiday.  Now i'm not saying to completely ignore these great "love-making" artist but i would suggest to be more original in this category.  Personally i would create a mix of songs from your everyday library. Be original! For my mix that i made for my girlfriend i included a few of these songs in the mix:
-falling by iration
-easy girl by coconut records
-la la love you by the pixies
-baby by devendra banhart

This is just a small sample of my own creative mix(i really don't want you guys to copy my own tracks that i chose).  These songs were everyday songs that i loved to sing along too and hopefully my girlfriend will enjoy them just as much as i do. What will you guys be putting on your valentines mix? if anyone actually reads this please post some of your valentine mix songs!!!

slowly learning that life is ok

I sit around in my room. Next to me is my trustworthy weapon of choice, my bass.  My CD collection lies not too far away from my computer that i am currently typing on.  And as I throw in the perfect CD into my hungry laptop, i wonder.  Is this the kind of music that i want to listen to right now? Do I want to hear something upbeat? Maybe i would prefer something with a funky bass line. Or maybe I would find orgasmic sounds coming from a sweet guitar rift.  I sit there.  I'm thinking really hard.  So i think about everything that i just thought about and I put in some Jamiroquai. Yup. That's perfect. It's good. For all of you who don't know who i'm even talking about, i suggest you research him. Don't just listen to him, research him. This band is amazing, with its funk bassist, melodic disco guitar, and the an interesting drum beat to add to Jay Kay's fluid voice makes this band amazing to hear.  As you might learn from future blogs, I am a music snob. Not in real life because that pisses people off. I am only a music snob on this blog. I shall go on random rants on the pure joy I get from listening to music such as Jamiroquai or the pure hatred that grows for other musicians such as Black Eyed Peas or Justin Bieber. Which don't get me wrong, i think Justin bieber is one of the more talented drummers that I have ever seen but you would have to check his drumming skills elsewhere because all that i remember him by is his "hit song," Baby. I hope you enjoy my snobby opinions in my future blogs.
